Also known as EPDM, this style of roofing is a marvelous investment in any kind of commercial unit or residential housing in Chicago or Chicagoland. EPDM Roofing has been in use for well over 50 years beginning in the 1970s and most roofs laid back then are still standing and in use today. Of course, with proper maintenance and installation, many EPDM roofs can and will withstand the test of time for well over 50 years. Used mainly on low-slope or flat roofs, this material is very efficient in repelling the elements including high winds and hail depending on the thickness of your choice.
With that being said, there are many different types of thickness ranging from 45 millimeters to 90 millimeters depending on the style of your building and the architectural aspects. Thinner material is good for areas that do not experience heavy winds or bigger sized hail while the thicker material would obviously be more beneficial in areas with golf-ball-sized hail or high-speed winds. Another fantastic aspect of EPDM is the color the material may come in. Both white and black are available with white being a better choice for sunny areas because of the heat reflection however, the black EPDM is a much more common color because the production is much cheaper and widely used.
This material, while lasting anywhere from 50 years and beyond, is also very easy to install and Gold Standard can install this style quickly and for a competitive price. When installed, EPDM is usually installed as a full sheet eliminating any seams or the need for fastening sheets to each other with heat or mechanically. This also improves the quality of the entire roof and helps tremendously with erasing any leaks and, if any leaks do appear, repairs are easy, quick, and relatively inexpensive. Not only that, but EPDM is also almost completely fireproof and nearly impossible to ignite and incredibly resistant to both heat and cold.
This style of roofing is also “going green” with new formulas that have been introduced to the trade. Almost all of this material is not only pliable to virtually every roof but it means that it reflects and repels radiation and UV rays which, in turn, helps create a more sustainable atmosphere in your workplace or home because you will not be leaving the A/C on for as long or have to keep the heater on all day. EPDM can also be coated with an acrylic painting which adds more appeal to many homeowners and with many different styles, will actually help to prolong the life of your roof.
Nonetheless, there are still some small drawbacks with EPDM. For instance, with many installations of any style of roofing, there are penetrations for HVAC, gas lines, electrical and so many others that need access up above. So, with that being said, those areas are more susceptible to damage or leaks and that may cause a lot of stress with any business owner or homeowner. If you include Gold Standard in your construction or remodeling, you have the safety of knowing that not only do you have a company that knows the ins and outs of this style of roofing but you also have someone that knows repairs and how to do them quickly and efficiently if a problem arises.
Gold Standard Restoration is a company that knows, and has experience with installing many different types of roofs; EPDM being one of them. Rubber roofs are not a residential “go-to” but can be a very incredible investment because of the longevity and endurance of it and also the ease of installation, especially on the commercial front. Not only that but also because this company has installed thousands of roofs in this area and has an unbelievable amount of experience with many different styles, repairs, and maintenance are both fast and long-lasting in any kind of condition in our community.
